Implied probability is what the price says has to happen for the bet to be a coin-flip. It is not the true chance — a bookmaker's prices add up to more than 100%, and that excess is the margin. Strip the margin out →

The formats, and the maths
Decimal
The total return on a 1-unit stake, stake included. 2.50 pays 2.50 back on 1 — a profit of 1.50. Used across Europe, Australia, and almost every crypto sportsbook. probability = 1 ÷ decimal
Fractional
Profit to stake, the traditional British form. 6/4 wins 6 for every 4 staked, so it is the same price as decimal 2.50. Bookmakers often leave the fraction unreduced — 6/4 rather than 3/2 — because the ladder of traditional prices is written that way. decimal = (numerator ÷ denominator) + 1
American (moneyline)
Two rules in one format. A positive number is the profit on a 100 stake: +150 wins 150. A negative number is the stake needed to win 100: −200 risks 200 to win 100. Even money is +100. decimal = (american ÷ 100) + 1 when positive, decimal = (100 ÷ |american|) + 1 when negative
Implied probability
The break-even win rate the price demands. At −110 you need to win 52.38% of your bets just to stand still; the 2.38 points above an even coin-flip is the book's cut. probability = 1 ÷ decimal
Hong Kong
Decimal with the stake taken out — the profit per 1 staked. 1.50 HK is decimal 2.50. Identical in meaning to a fractional price, written as a decimal. decimal = hong kong + 1
Malay
Never leaves the range −1 to 1. A positive number is the profit per 1 staked, used for prices up to even money. A negative number is the stake needed to win 1, used for odds-on prices. decimal = malay + 1 when positive, decimal = (1 ÷ |malay|) + 1 when negative
Indonesian
American odds divided by 100, so +2.50 and −2.00 mean exactly what +250 and −200 mean. The magnitude is always 1 or more. decimal = indonesian + 1 when positive, decimal = (1 ÷ |indonesian|) + 1 when negative
